University Center

Built in 1926 in the Mediterranean Revival style, this historic site is rooted in the golden age of the American automobile and is a keystone property in The Blume Company portfolio.

Originally the home of Eldridge Buick Company, the site is more than familiar to The Blume Company. In 1936, the grandfather of Blume Company Chairman and CEO Bruce Blume and Chief Financial and Operating Officer Greg Blume opened a Chevrolet dealership on the site. For a time, Bruce’s father ran the franchise, known as University Chevrolet. Bruce himself worked at the dealership, washing cars as a teenager.

In 1985, The Blume Company renovated the property for retail, restaurant and office use. Today, University Center includes five properties and a variety of notable tenants in a campus of buildings that is integrated into the increasingly urban, walkable neighborhood:
  • 4501 Roosevelt: Performance Bicycle, University Fitness
  • 4545 Roosevelt: To Be Announced
  • 4555 Roosevelt: Trader Joe’s, AAA of Washington, Princeton Review
  • 4500 9th Avenue NE: Metro Cinemas
  • 4709 Roosevelt: Half Price Books

These businesses add to the vibrancy of the neighboring shops and restaurants around the University of Washington. Foot traffic is steady in this thriving community.

The renovations to the main building at University Center, 4501 Roosevelt, were completed in 1986.
